When public funds for waste disposal and cleaning are lacking, an area becomes increasingly dirty. One can see mountains of garbage that remains where it is left, a sign of bitter poverty.
Furthermore, many market stalls are put together with a few pieces of wood, and people spend their days there to earn enough money for themselves and their families.

The Caribbean beach of Haiti is stunningly beautiful, but it is still relatively undeveloped in terms of tourism. As long as the country is plagued by poverty and unrest, tourism will not be able to grow significantly to generate new jobs. It's a vicious cycle.
